Day 22 (4/4/14) - Paros Island Odyssey

The Old Man and he Sea...kind of

Hoppitty hop, hoppitty hop, hoppitty hop......

That's the beauty of the Greek Islands. Hopping from one to the other so easily by ferry, and with seabands on Andrew still manages a smile - just.

The island of Paros is only an hour away so we head off for an early 9.30am start. Yep , early when on holidays with return tickets for 10.00pm that night. Long day but so worth it. Interesting how each island has its peculiarities and Paros has fashion. Gina's in heaven. Shabby chic, Italian styles and shoes every where. Of course nothing fits those size 11 canoes. The shop assistants don't even bother getting up from behind the counter after a look at   Gina's hooves.

Again we are greeted with gorgeous, winding, Venetian style old city streets. Paros best known for its beaches is a very popular destination not only for the touirists but the Greek community also love to holiday here too.
Of course, due to the early start the bathers were back at Naxos. Dumb bums....
STOP...selfie time

Ooh look...more Ouzo
Cat Woman helping out another furry friend in need

Who said a vine can't grow through the wall?

Pondering..."how did they do this?"
So we wandered the streets, Gina taking advantage of a little retail therapy (Andrew will need to seek financial therapy on return!). Whilst each island has a peculiarity, they are so similar too, having been occupied at the same times by the same conquerors. The thought that amazes us both is the detail in the ancient craftsmanship, and the advanced engineering required to move slabs of stone, the mind boggles.

Greek bar life with an ouzo..no worry beads?

Some Paros craftiness on display - he's been to Melbourne too!
So we have a 10PM ferry ticket, what to do until then?, you know the answer. We stopped for a lovely late lunch, early dinner, then set about sampling the local brews at a couple of bars around the Plaka. This set us right up for a snooze on the return ferry. We had to be woken as we landed in Naxos, and we sleepily made our way home. The Naxos harbour strip was well alive at 11PM, where did all the people come from?
3 cheese eggplant dish - yummo!!!
